The culinarily-inclined may recognize this title and text from Beadle’s Dime Cookbook, published in 1864 and written by Mrs. Victor.
This would have been a text that was common and easily acquired. As such, it has been used by many convenience writers.
The convenience writer emphasizes grace, and stresses the need for authenticity by warning against too much performance.
